Francis Hylton, a renowned bassist, producer, and DJ from London, UK, has been a significant figure in the music industry since the early 1990s. His journey began with the Acid Jazz band Galliano, signed to Talkin’ Loud records, where he toured extensively across Europe, Asia, and Australia.
In 1996, during a recording session in Japan, Hylton crossed paths with Jean-Paul ‘Bluey’ Maunick and the band Incognito, marking the start of a long-standing musical relationship.
Joining Incognito
In 2005, Hylton officially joined Incognito as their bassist and musical director. His dynamic bass lines and musical direction have been instrumental in shaping the band’s signature sound, blending elements of funk, jazz, and soul.
Beyond performing, Hylton has co-written and co-produced numerous tracks for the band, contributing significantly to their continued success and evolution.
Collaborations and Side Projects
Hylton’s versatility extends beyond Incognito. He has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, including Chaka Khan, Jocelyn Brown, Omar, and Kathy Sledge, showcasing his ability to adapt to various musical styles.
Additionally, he serves as the musical director for STR4TA, a project led by Gilles Peterson and Bluey Maunick, further cementing his role as a key influencer in the contemporary music scene.
Current Endeavors
Today, Hylton continues to push musical boundaries. He co-founded Future Spin Records, a platform dedicated to innovative music production. As a DJ, he brings his eclectic taste to audiences worldwide, blending genres and creating unique musical experiences.
