The founder of the funk Jamiroquai: STUART ZENDER

Stuart Zender is a bassist best known for his work with Jamiroquai, where he was a bassist from 1992 to 1998.

Considered one of the greatest bassists of all time in Britain, Stuart Zender is best known for being one of the founding members and the original bassist of the funk band Jamiroqui.

Stuart’s solid and confident touch with Jamiroquai hides the relatively short time he plays bass. “I started about four years ago,” he smiles. “I still have a long way to go – I keep learning new things every day. It’s not that I feel restricted at the moment, because I’m there to simplify and keep the pace” but I know there’s a lot more I could do, but I haven’t had time to explore the possibilities yet.

Stuart cites the following bass players as having a high influence on their performance; Nathaniel Phillips, Stanley Clarke, Alphonso Johnson, Chuck Rainey, Stanley Clark, Larry Graham, Bootsy Collins, Verdine White, James Jamerson, Bernard Edwards, Paul Jackson, Helmut Hatler. ”
Also, I listen to a lot of Latin and jazz – Miles Davis, Brecker Brothers – and old stuff from the 70s, like Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers, Johnny Hammond and Earth, Wind & Fire. I really like Joni Mitchell and Carole King now, but when I was younger, I liked punk – the Dead Kennedys and the Sex Pistols “.
